📝 AITA for feeling resentful that my boss hired his old classmate with no industry experience and pays him more than me?

I’ve been grinding away at a small factory for over five years, cutting, grooving, lifting pipes larger than 8" off the ground and threading steel pipes for sprinkler systems. I even handle powder-coating, drilling, and pre-installing fittings when needed—I take real pride in doing things right and keeping my workspace spotless.

About a year and a half ago, the boss hires his old classmate. This guy’s paid more than me from day one, even though he barely knows our processes. He bolts through jobs leaving a trail of scrap and mistakes—like missing the clearly marked pipes on the prints, not cleaning equipment or brooming—and never owns up to it. Meanwhile, I show up every morning, do my job properly, and steer clear of the drama.

It’s maddening to see him skate by on connections while the rest of us build actual skills. No matter how much experience you rack up, it feels like loyalty to old buddies trumps competence around here. Anyone else sick of this “who you know” BS in their workplace? What’s the point of putting in the work if nepotism always wins? 😤
