Iâve been grinding away at a small factory for over five years, cutting, grooving, lifting pipes larger than 8" off the ground and threading steel pipes for sprinkler systems. I even handle powder-coating, drilling, and pre-installing fittings when neededâI take real pride in doing things right and keeping my workspace spotless.
About a year and a half ago, the boss hires his old classmate. This guyâs paid more than me from day one, even though he barely knows our processes. He bolts through jobs leaving a trail of scrap and mistakesâlike missing the clearly marked pipes on the prints, not cleaning equipment or broomingâand never owns up to it. Meanwhile, I show up every morning, do my job properly, and steer clear of the drama.
Itâs maddening to see him skate by on connections while the rest of us build actual skills. No matter how much experience you rack up, it feels like loyalty to old buddies trumps competence around here. Anyone else sick of this âwho you knowâ BS in their workplace? Whatâs the point of putting in the work if nepotism always wins? đ¤
