I 24m and my gf 22f recently moved into a small apartment, before moving they gave us the whole run down of dos and don’ts, one of which was NO PETS. My gf already had a dog prior to moving out of her parents house so this news upset her, I told her it was fine and we could sneak in her dog when we had time like on our days off work (it usually stays at her parents house). I work 6, 12 hour shifts so I’m never home and recently my gf started working a similar schedule so we hadn’t brought her dog over in a while. The other day she decided to bring her dog despite working the whole week, to avoid an argument I said it was fine since she said she would make time to take care of the dog. Well, 2 days ago I had a pretty rough day at work and when I got home I got hit with the smell of dog shit with all the windows closed and the dog diarrhea right in the hallway ON THE CARPET, it had kind of soaked into the carpet cause I’m sure it had been hours since the dog decided to do it’s business there. I took a picture and sent it to my gf with the caption “nice”. She called me when she was off but never mentioned what I had sent her, so I brought it up and told her that really annoyed me and it’s messed up to bring the dog knowing we don’t have time to care of it, it stays home alone for 12 hours and I know it has no choice but to do that. She then starts getting extremely upset saying why would I say that to her after she had a horrible day, I told her to calm down and even apologized cause it not that big of a deal it just really bothered me, I have no issue with her bringing her dog as long as she has time to walk it so things like this don’t happen and do all the things a dog owner should do. I honestly don’t ever tell her anything despite it bothering me like letting the dog sleep on by our heads on the bed. Now she’s barely speaking to me, I really don’t think I’m an asshole for telling her this but she’s treating me like I said something horrible to her. I asked her what was so bad about what I said, and she said it’s not so much what I said but how I said it, I’m like how else am I supposed to tell you something that annoyed me?? I didn’t even raise my voice but I was stern about it, as anyone else who is annoyed by something, so AITA?
