Me (42F) and my ex (47M) were together six years. Our relationship started as FWB - we had sex a few times a week. This is my ideal situation - enjoy alone time, sleeping in my own bed, waking up alone, singing terribly without an audience, etc... While I was happy to be on a sidewalk, he consistently wanted to escalate things and eventually told me I was the love of his life and he wanted to marry me.

Our compromise was moving in at the four year mark. It didn't go well. We were both very set in our ways - he had never lived with a partner or even had a serious relationship before.

We broke up in the fall of 2023. We remained (platonic) friends who spoke on the phone weekly and met up for a meal every couple of months. In January, we started having sex again, but were free to see other people. Things were going swimmingly, for me, until last month when he started asking me to go on dates again and telling me things like "I love making love to you."

I love this man as a friend, but am even less interested in a romantic relationship than I was before (with anyone). Am I playing with fire/his heart?
