Marketplace Who Then Wasted My Time by Sending Me to a Comedy Club as “Punishment”? I (25M) recently tried to buy an electric skateboard on Facebook Marketplace because I was hoping to snag a good deal. I found a listing by a guy named Christopher and offered $200, which I’ll admit was a lowball offer. Surprisingly, he accepted right away with an “Of course” and asked where I wanted to meet. I asked what worked for him, and he gave me an address. He asked if I could meet in 25 minutes, I said yes, and I started driving. It was about a 50-minute drive for me, but I figured it was worth it for the deal. I even sent a thumbs-up to confirm I was on my way. I’ve attached screenshots of our chat for reference. When I arrived at the address, I realized it was a comedy club, which seemed odd for a Marketplace meetup. I messaged him to say I was there, and his response totally blindsided me: “Go inside, head up on stage and tell your jokes to somebody else.” At that point, it clicked—he wasn’t actually there, and he had no intention of meeting up. I didn’t go inside the comedy club and just left, feeling pretty annoyed that I’d driven 50 minutes for nothing. After thinking about it, I realized he probably sent me to the comedy club as a “punishment” for lowballing him. It seems like he got mad about my offer, agreed to it just to mess with me, and then sent me on this wild goose chase to waste my time. I get that lowballing can be annoying for sellers, but isn’t haggling pretty normal on Marketplace? I feel like his reaction was over the top, but now I’m wondering if I was wrong for lowballing him in the first place, or if I should’ve handled this differently. AITA for making the lowball offer that led to this, or was his response just too much? Edit: Conversation.
