My closest group of friends is getting together for a weekend trip and concert in May for one of their birthdays. He planned this 6 months in advance and I bought hundreds of dollars worth of tickets at that time and now owe for our share of the Airbnb as well. This group only gets together a few times a year because we’re spread out.
The Airbnb for the weekend trip is Friday-Sunday. The concert is Saturday night.
About a month or so after I’d accepted the invitation and purchased tickets my GF received an invitation to her cousins wedding for the same Saturday afternoon.
We talk about maybe going or maybe not. Time passes and I decide I’d rather not but she decides she’d like to attend.
The wedding is 3 hours from the Airbnb. That’s a 6 hour round trip by car to spend a couple of hours with people I’ve only met once very briefly. My GF does not seem at all close with the couple either besides the fact the bride is her cousin. I can still see why she’d like to go but I despise long drives. I’d gladly go were it nearby or if we didn’t have plans that prevent us from staying near the wedding for the night.
Who can spend 6 hours in a car for a total of a 9-10 hour day after the wedding and then still have the energy for anything else all weekend much less the same night?
AITA if I don’t go to the wedding?
