My ex-boyfriend (31M) and I (23F) dated for 2 years and brokeup because he cheated on me and also pressured me into an abortion when I was pregnant (I didn’t have the abortion but ended up with a miscarriage a few months in). I made a post about that a while ago if you want to read it to find out more.
After we brokeup he bought a couples book and Polaroid camera that he has gotten for us to use together. It basically has challenges you are supposed to complete together and then you take a picture of yourselves doing it and paste it in the book.
He left this book and camera at my house and when we brokeup he called me and asked me if I could ship it to his house along with all the other gifts he had gotten me throughout our relationship such bracelets and other jewellery (he lives overseas). I said no and that he had gotten it for me so he wasn’t getting them back.
Today he flew into my city for work but asked if he could have a chat to me when I was free. He came over and after talking for a bit he asked me where I had kept that couples book he got and camera, and then proceeded to take them and put them in his backpack after I told him. I got upset and took them out of his bag straight away and told him it was disrespectful and if he could please leave. He said that he had gotten the gift for us as a couple, and that he had spent $500 on that gift and wanted it back. I said no and ended up kicking him out because I was so upset.
AITA for doing this? I don’t even know why I told him I kept the books and camera, I just didn’t think he would take it, let alone in front of me. I feel a bit selfish since I don’t intend to use the gift, but I also don’t want to give him the satisfaction of having it.
