So I (22F) have an iPhone 16 Pro Max with Telstra data. My whole family uses Vodafone, but Telstra has way better signal where we live, so I’m kind of the only one who can reliably get reception most of the time.
I don’t mind letting people use my phone when it’s for something quick, like calling their own phone or checking something simple. But here’s what happened:
My dad had to make an important call for a flight he was taking the next day. His Vodafone signal dropped out completely, and he asked if he could use my phone. I didn’t actually say no—I just kind of stayed quiet. I wasn’t trying to be rude, I just felt really uncomfortable in that moment and didn’t know how to respond.
Then, instead of waiting or asking again, he took my phone and held it up to my face to try and unlock it with Face ID. I turned my face away and refused to look at it, so it wouldn’t unlock. He didn’t get angry or yell, but he ended up going to a friend’s house to make the call instead. The next day, he left for his flight, and he never brought the situation up again.
Now I keep thinking about it. I know the call was important, and I wasn’t trying to be mean—but I also didn’t want to feel forced into sharing my phone, especially like that. At the same time, I feel kind of guilty that he had to leave the house and find another way.
So… AITA for not letting him use my phone, even though he needed it for something important?
