this was a while ago (around june of last year) but it's continued to bother me enough that i'd really like a second opinion to know if i was really in the wrong.
i (f20) was walking home from uni and the sidewalk i was on was large enough to fit two people, side-by-side. i was walking in the middle since there was no one else there, but a moment later i could see an elderly couple walking a good distance behind me. it didn't take long for them to close the distance between us (i didn't expect them to be walking so fast) and i figured that they'd pass by me, so i quickly moved from the center and kept to one side. the women went past me but the older man had made contact with my shoulder and that set him off. he said that i should've stopped walking altogether and stand away from the sidewalk, letting the two of them pass so they could walk hand-in-hand. he then got up in my face and told me to "wake up!" — implying that i should be more aware of my surroundings. the reaction was so unexpected that by the time they had left, i started tearing up.
so aita? i feel like i probably should've kept to one side from the beginning so i'm just shit with sidewalk etiquette.
