My (28F) sister (32F) is getting married in two months and she’s made it very clear that the wedding is going to be 100% child-free — no exceptions. I totally get that for toddlers and older kids, but I recently had a baby (6 months old), and I’m still breastfeeding. He’s not loud, he’s not mobile, and I was planning to keep him with me or step out if he fussed.
I asked her if she’d consider making an exception just for him, especially since I’m not comfortable leaving him with a sitter yet. She said she “understood” but didn’t want to set a precedent and thinks all guests should respect her boundaries equally. I said I wouldn’t be able to attend if that’s the case, and now she’s upset, saying I’m punishing her for her boundaries and “making it all about me.”
My husband says I should just respect her wishes, but my mom is on my side and thinks my sister is being too rigid. So… AITA for not going if my infant can’t come?
