My (29F) sister (32F) is getting married next month to her fiancé (34M) who she's been with for 3 years. They're having a somewhat small wedding with about 80 guests, which I understand means they had to make some cuts to the guest list.

Here's where the problem started. I've been dating my boyfriend "Jake" (30M) for 8 months. We're pretty serious and have talked about moving in together next year. I was initially given a +1 for the wedding and told Jake about it, and he was excited to attend and meet more of my family.

Last week, my sister called me and said that they needed to trim the guest list even more due to venue constraints, and that they decided to implement a "1-year relationship minimum" for plus ones. This means Jake is no longer invited.

I told her I was really upset about this and that 8 months is still a serious relationship. I also pointed out that her fiancé's college roommate is bringing a girl he's only been seeing for 3 months. My sister said that was "different" because the roommate "doesn't know many people at the wedding" and would be uncomfortable alone.

I argued that it's inconsistent to have a rule and then make exceptions, and also pointed out that I helped her with a lot of the wedding planning and even paid for half of her bachelorette trip. She got defensive and said I was making her wedding about me.

Now I've decided not to go to the wedding at all. My parents think I'm overreacting and should just attend solo, but I feel disrespected and like my relationship isn't being valued. Most of our mutual friends are siding with my sister because "it's her day."
