I (27F) love my niece (4F), shes adorable and I enjoy spending time with her 7 But lately my brother (30M) and his wife have been asking me to watch her almost every weekend so they can have “time to themselves.” At first, it was once in a while and I didn’t mind. But now it’s basically expected.
They just drop her off Saturday morning and pick her up late Sunday night, and it’s starting to mess with my own plans. I work all week and weekends are literally the only time I get to relax or see friends. Plus, they never offer money, not even for food or anything. They act like because I’m family, I should just do it out of love
Last weekend I told them I couldn’t do it anymore unless it’s planned ahead and they at least help a little with expenses. My brother got super defensive and said I was “turning my back on family” and that they really need this time” to keep their marriage strong.
Now my mom is involved, telling me I should “help them because they helped raise me when I was little.” I don’t know.. it’s not that I dont want to help, but I feel like they’re taking advantage.
AITA?
