I (22F) have a friend, let's call her "Emily" (23F), who has been in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend "Chris" (24M) for about 4 years. Recently, Emily confessed to me that she cheated on Chris with someone at her work. She told me it was a one-time mistake and that it didn’t mean anything, but she's scared to tell him because she doesn't want to lose him.
I’ve been friends with Emily for years, and I care about her deeply. But now, I find myself in this position where I’m stuck between supporting her and trying to convince her to do the right thing. I’ve been talking to her regularly and offering advice on what she should do, but I haven’t told anyone else about what happened, including Chris. I don't think it's any of my business to meddle.
My boyfriend (24M) has been really bothered by the fact that I’m still friends with Emily and not telling Chris. He thinks it’s wrong to keep this secret and feels like I’m enabling Emily by not being honest with Chris. He even said he feels uncomfortable with me spending time with her, especially since he knows she betrayed her partner.
I’ve tried to explain that I’m trying to help Emily work through this, but he just feels like I’m condoning her behavior by not doing anything about it. It’s causing tension in our relationship, and I don’t know what to do.
So, AITA for staying friends with Emily and not telling Chris, especially when it’s bothering my boyfriend?
