So i took my brother to see the minecraft movie today. I grew up playing minecraft and while my brother is younger than me he also grew up playing it and we both still love the game. So obviously we were excited to see it. The cinema was pretty busy and we were on the backrow. To the left of us were a group of boys aged 12 i’d say and to the right a mother and her 2 kids who were probably aged 10 and 6 if i had to guess.
Now while i understand its a kids movie and i have a lot of patience for young children as i have a lot of young kids in my family, the way these two kids were screeching the entire film was just beyond ridiculous. At the start they were just giggling really obnoxiously and loudly and at first i was like okay theyre just excited thats fair enough.
But as the movie went on these kids were dancing down the isle, screaming and squealing the entire time and kept clapping for no good reason? The boys on the left of us would also clap and cheer at certain parts of the movie but were relatively quiet the entire time so they didnt bother me i can handle cheering and clapping every 10-20 mins.
But the kids and their mother were starting to really anger me. I told them to ‘be quiet about 30 minutes into the movie hoping the mother would take a hint and get her kids to stop but she didnt instead she encouraged their behaviour by recording them and laughing. I then got visibly frustrated as I’d taken my younger brother as a treat and he as well as i was excited to see the movie. Also movie tickets arent cheap! Not only me but other people there had paid a decent amount of money to see this movie. No one wants to pay upwards of £30 for there to be screaming children the whole time.
As it went on i got angrier and shushed them MULTIPLE TIMES to which the kids still DID NOT LISTEN and carried on screaming the entire movie. People around were side eyeing them and staring and everyone was visibly annoyed. There were other kids even younger than them in the cinema who werent making a sound but these kids were making it hard to actually sit through a 2 hour movie when all i could hear was loud screeching every 5 minutes.
By the time it got to the last 20 mins i just wanted to leave as i was getting really annoyed at their behaviour and the fact that the mother wasnt doing anything. When the lights came on it cut to the credits and i was so annoyed that they had basically ruined the whole movie that i went up to the mother and said “You know the movie would’ve been alot better if your kids werent screaming the entire time”
To which she replied something about the other people in the cinema not minding and shouted at me to have a lovely day, obviously being sarcastic. While recording me as well. I just walked out and when i reached the door with my brother 2 kids slightly younger than me also chimed in and said they agreed and the kids were being extremely annoying and loud.
Am i the a hole for telling the mother to keep her kids quiet?
