I (20F) live in an apartment with two other roommates in a college town. For some context, I've been dealing with ongoing issues with these roommates since they moved in. I originally leased the apartment and then when I found some roommates to help with rent, I added them to the lease.
Since then, they've made me feel like an unwanted guest in my own home. Anything of mine that they like using, like my air fryer or TV that I have in the living room, it suddenly becomes a "shared" item. But anything of mine that they don't like, they move or hide it so it's like I'm not even allowed to exist. Things like a knife sharpener, my grandma's recipe box, a blanket, or even a phone charger, basically anything of mine that I leave in the kitchen and living room are always moved or hidden because they were "unsightly." I oftne find my stuff on the ground outside my bedroom door when I get back from classes (including my clean clothes if they're in the dryer too long).
But it doesn't end there. When the apartment complex opened up contracts for the next year, my roommates renewed the lease behind my back and signed it with someone else. I had no idea this happened until after tey had already signed the contract, so I had no say in it whatsoever. Ifound a new apartment, but because of the overlap in the contracts, I now have to pay double rent over the summer (A new total of $1,100 a month as a college student)
I'll be the only one living up here over the summer, and I'm transferring the electricity bill to my name for those months. Today I asked if they could please take their food from the fridge and freezer home with them over the summer. I like to cook and wanted to have the extra space available for me, especially because the freezer is very small. They got defensive, asking why that would be necessary. I said I don't want to deal with rotting food and since I'm paying the electricity bill, I don't want to pay to keep their food cold all summer. They mentioned that freezer food doesn't rot so it shouldn't be an issue, but I gave them an ultimatum and said that anything they don't take home, I will throw away.
Now they're saying that I'm just trying to start drama over something petty. AITA?
