I (25F) have been best friends with “Tasha” (26F) since high school. We’ve always been honest with each other — sometimes brutally so — and we’ve seen each other through a lot. Recently, she started dating a new guy, “Brent,” and I’ve met him a few times now. On the surface, he’s polite, but something about him really puts me off.
It’s hard to explain — he always seems to linger too close, makes comments that sound like compliments but feel a bit off, like “You’re looking real grown these days” or “You’re way more fun than Tasha described.” Once, he asked if I was “still single” with this weird smirk that gave me goosebumps. I thought maybe I was overreacting, so I kept it to myself at first.
But after the third time we hung out, I felt so uneasy that I decided to say something. I told Tasha, carefully, that I wasn’t trying to be dramatic, but Brent made me uncomfortable and gave off a “creepy vibe.” I made it clear that I wasn’t accusing him of anything — just sharing how I felt. She didn’t take it well. She got super defensive and said I was being judgmental, that I always “have something to say” about her boyfriends, and that I just don’t want her to be happy.
Now things between us are tense. She hasn’t replied to my last few texts, and I’m worried I might have overstepped. But at the same time, I’d feel worse if something happened and I stayed silent. It wasn’t easy for me to speak up, and I thought our friendship was strong enough to handle honesty.
So… AITA for telling my friend her boyfriend gives me bad vibes?
