My mum (50f) has struggled with her weight for years.

She was pretty overweight at one point and 2 years ago she paid $7k for a gastric balloon surgery. basically they inflate a balloon in ur stomach so you eat less then a year later they take it out.

It worked well for her and she lost 35kg. She looked and felt so much healthier. However, she gained almost all the weight back in 2 years. We were all disappointed since she paid so much and was doing so well.

She is unemployed right now due to her injury sustained at work and is now relying on government funds she gets. She also still owes me $6k i gave her since she was struggling (keep this in mind).

I have her email account logged into my phone. This is because i send emails for her to her lawyers and doctors ect since she’s not a great english speaker. I saw an email for an invoice. $15,000 for a gastric bypass surgery.

I confronted her about it. I told her she has no money to be doing this. She spent money on the last surgery and didn’t take it seriously and gained all the weight back. I don’t think she will be different with this one.

She told me she taking money out of her retirement savings for this shit. I go off at her because she still owes me and my siblings for the money she burrowed but she’s going off to do this surgery.

She is not extremely morbidly obese. Shes 5’3 88kg. She also eats horribly and does no physical activity. She says its because of her knee injury but i know shes just lazy. I’ve suggested her to go swimming, do low mobility exercises, eat healthier but no she has an excuse for everything. She has no problem walking around shopping but can’t go for a 10 minute walk around the park.

She can very much loose weight with proper diet and exercise. She doesn’t need the surgery she’s paying for with our money.

I’ve offered to diet and exercise with her so she’s not alone but no. She refuses.

Now she won’t talk to me. She says i was being rude and need to mind my own business.

I’m genuinely worried about her health too. Especially since this is the second surgery she’s doing in a small period of time.

Am i an asshole?
