So this blew up recently, and I’m still not sure if I overreacted or not.
My mom and my stepsister got into a heated argument that escalated to the point the police were called. Things were tense, and my mom was inside venting about everything—including how she lets my stepsister’s best friend stay over, eat her food, etc.
I was outside talking to one of my other sisters when the best friend suddenly started yelling and cussing out my mom and stepdad. Mind you—she’s not family, and this had nothing to do with her.
I told her to get in the car and stay out of it because it wasn’t her business. She snapped back at me, saying I had no right to tell her how to react. Then she crossed a line and said something like, “That’s why he gave your mom BV.”
At that point, I lost it and went off on her. What made it worse was my stepsister said nothing. I told her to check her best friend, and she just stood there like she was scared. So it turned into an argument between me and the best friend, and things got loud.
Now I’m being told I escalated things by getting involved, but I feel like I was just setting boundaries. AITA?
