📝 AITA for thinking about exposing my employer to the building manager before they skip town?

So here’s the situation: I work for a small business that’s been going downhill for a while now. Things have been messy, but I’ve tried to stick it out. Now it’s getting shady.

My employer just told me (through text, of course) that we’re shutting down THIS WEEK, and they want to keep it a secret. No notice to customers, no word to the building manager, nothing. Just pack up quietly and disappear.

They specifically told us NOT to say anything to the building manager, because they’re afraid the manager might lock us out or keep everything inside the unit if they find out we’re closing. That alone makes me think they’re behind on rent or owe money. Why else would they be this paranoid?

It feels wrong. The building manager is just a regular person, not some giant corporation. They deserve to know what’s going on with their property before the business skips out in the middle of the night. But I’m torn if I say something, it could burn bridges or even land me in trouble for “interfering.”

Still… this whole thing feels dishonest and shady. I don’t want to be part of helping someone sneak out like this.

So Reddit… AITA if I tell the building manager that my employer is closing this week and planning to bail without notice?
