Back in 2017 my son wanted a hamster. I did my research at the time to try and provide this pet with the best home we could. We overspent on supplies, and I bought the roomiest cage I could find which happened to be a cage rated for guinea pigs and rabbits. It had a deep (about 8") solid bottom for plenty of bedding, we put in a platform and ramps and the best wheel on the market based on my research.
She lived a little over a year and died shortly after we moved house, so I've always wondered if the move itself stressed her out? Idk but we also had a cat who would unfortunately stand by her cage and watch her if she could, so we took measures to prevent the cat from getting near her cage, but this might also have been stressful for her. She had this one corner of her cage that she would often gnaw on obsessively. We kept her cage clean, and my son took her out regularly to run around in a larger space (sans cat).
About a year ago I was decluttering and decided to list this cage and other supplies on Marketplace. They still haven't sold. But this lady I don't know (she's not local to me either) keeps harassing me about my listing, accusing me of animal cruelty etc. That I obviously didn't do my research because that cage is way too small (according to her it's about half the recommended size for a hamster, but like, all the actual hamster cages I could find were significantly smaller than that, so...). She is demanding that I remove the listing.
I don't think it's any of her business, and if someone bought the cage and supplies from me it's also not any of my business what they do with it.
AITA for keeping the listing up?
