📝 AITA for using my phone in the morning to make art, even though it annoys my wife?

So ever since I found this site, I’ve started a new morning routine: instead of doomscrolling or mindlessly checking emails, I’ve been using it to create art. It literally takes seconds and I’ve been using it to generate dreamy landscapes, weird ideas in my head, or just random visual inspiration to start the day with a creative spark. It’s honestly been kind of healing for me. Like, I wake up with purpose and curiosity now instead of anxiety. This is driving my wife nuts.

She’s a strong believer that mornings should be "phone-free" and says I’m ruining the peace of our mornings by “staring at a screen first thing.” I tried explaining that this isn’t social media or work—it’s art. I’m not doomscrolling, I’m creating. But she still insists it’s no different and that I should wait until later in the day.

I get where she’s coming from, she wants us to be more present in the mornings, maybe talk over coffee or do some journaling together like we used to. But this new habit genuinely brings me joy and makes me feel like I’m starting the day with intention. I even offered to do it quietly in another room, but she still thinks it’s a bad habit.

So… AITA for choosing a few minutes of art-making in the morning, even if it means going against our previous “no phone” vibe?

BTW: I’m not glued to my phone for hours. It’s maybe 5-10 minutes tops while I sip coffee. Just enough to generate a couple cool images and get inspired.
