I (19F) have been with my bf (20M) for a little over 2 months. I brought him to my house a couple of days ago for the first time. I have 2 cats: Charlie and Lola. Charlie loves everybody, it doesn't matter who it is, he's an attention whore. Lola is a queen and allows people to pet her sometimes. My bf came over and the first thing I expected was to have Charlie rubbing all over my legs asking for pets. But Charlie approached us and sniffed close to my bf before suddenly backing away. I've never seen him back away from someone before. That was a bit shocking. I called him over (he always comes running whenever I call him) but he refused to come. Lola came up to us and sniffed my bf and hissed. She only hisses when she's annoyed at someone who's petting her. My bf put out his fingers for both cats to smell and wasn't aggressive in wanting to pet them so it's not like he hated cats. After a few hours my bf left. I could not find Charlie. I was panicking thinking that something bad happened. I searched my entire house before finding him hiding under my couch. I have never before in my life seen Charlie hiding under there. The entire time my bf was over my cats made themselves scarce. I'm really worried because Charlie is such a friendly lover cat, and yet he hated my bf and was scared enough to hide. I'm not sure what to do. I feel like his reaction alone was a big red flag but then the fact that Lola would not hang out with us in the same room was also a bit unnerving. I'm not sure what to do. Edit: I won't lie I am very mentally unstable. He knows this so it's not like it's a big secret. My cats have always helped calm me down and just comfort me. Also, since then I've noticed little things like whenever we're talking he interrupts me every time I try to say something. I've asked my best friend to help me look into him, she's basically the entire FBI lol. She found criminal records. He went to jail for sexual assault. I've made my decision. Thanks guys!
