For context, I was hanging out with a friend of mine earlier today and my partner texted me asking how my day was going. I told them what I was doing and thought about sending them a picture of me with my friend, since they had never met this particular friend of mine before. My friend said it was okay for me to do so, but the trouble was, I had a lot of photos of them in my camera roll. When my friend asked me what was taking me so long, I said that I was trying to find a good picture of them to send to my partner.
That caused them to get offended, and they started cursing me out. I didn't know what was making them so mad at first, but I had the feeling I'd said something wrong, and so I tried to say sorry. They only told me "fuck you" and that I wouldn't have said it if I didn't mean it. I asked them how I could make it up to them, and they said that I couldn't, because I had shattered their confidence by essentially telling them they had to "look good enough" for my partner. Then they stormed off, leaving me shocked and dejected. Did I make a serious mistake, or did my friend overreact?
And if I am the asshole (which I think I might be), how do I recover from this?
