First time poster here and am hoping for some advice:

My parents own a house in the mountains that is a duplex - they use the first unit and they let my family use the second unit.

My parents are very private people and do not socialize. They work very hard and prefer to spend quality time with each other and with my family - my wife and two children.

Out of respect for their privacy, I do not invite my friends over to their house; even though they let my family use our own private unit.

Over the years, my brother in law has asked if he can bring his family to this house to enjoy the mountains.

I’ve explained that my parents are very private people, but the perception is that I’m just an AH for not allowing my brother in law’s family to enjoy my parent’s beautiful mountain house.

My wife has been very understanding and as I’ve explained it to her, I would never ask my other brother in law if I could bring my family to his parent’s vacation home.
