I teach a special subject in high school that is part of a 4 year program that has a certification test the 4th year. A few days ago students that I taught last year (and a few the year before as well) took a very important certification test and all but two passed. After the school posted an announcement congratulating them I shared it and said “I am really proud to share this celebration of all of the new Certified [students] at [my school]. I taught every single one of these students last year and many of them the year before as well. We had a 98% pass rate! I couldn’t be more proud of all the hard work they put in to reach this awesome achievement!”
Afterward I received a text message from the teacher that teaches the 4th year class that states “I don’t want to be awkward or confrontational. but something is really bothering me. l feel like you were taking credit for the test scores with your FB post.” I responded with “In what way? I congratulated them for their hard work and said I was proud of them.” I did not receive a response and today at school the other teacher completely ignored me and wouldn’t even make eye contact. Is my post really that terrible? For reference, we have 6 mutual Facebook friends and my post was not public. Everyone that knows both of us knows how our program works and that I teach 2nd and 3rd year classes for the program.
