Aitah for accidentally saying a slur? I know it makes people uncomfortable but I did not think it was a big deal at all. It's how I was taught in school to shorten the word and also saw it used a lot online for manga translation , live journal, myspace, gaiaonline etc. I think a lot of anime sites still use that short hand to categorize languages.

But apparently it had all been updated to JPN. Didnt realize this was even a thing.

I (34f) picked up my friend(25m) that lives about 45 minutes away so they could shower at my house and have a proper meal since they lived in a hoarder house and hasn't had a job in 3 years, so they don't eat very well.

Me: Okay, i wont say it anymore but ive seen it written like that my whole life...idk why you're so offended if you use slurs all the time. You say faggot a lot.

Them: I've inherited the right to use those words because of my queer history.

Me: so if I decide right now that I'm queer can I say faggot? because you told me that word was super offensive and should never be used

Them: yeah. You can say faggot if you think you're queer.

Me: so if someone is 50% black does that mean they inherited the right to say the n-word? ( referencing our mixed race friend who was told they couldn't because they weren't %100 black )

Them: what you're saying is what white people use to control and minimize the people of color.

And i drove them 45 minutes back to their house.
