This situation happened a few years ago but it was brought up recently when my(18f) family started talking about how my mom(49f) has a favorite daughter.

When I was a freshman and my older sister(21f) was a senior in high school we were both given the opportunity to go to state for our track team. But 2 days before we were supposed to leave my mom texted me and said I wasn’t allowed to go but my sister can. My mom’s reasons were that my grades were low and my room was messy. Both of those things I could fix in 2 days (which I did).

She still did not let me go even when I stressed that this was a big trip for me as a freshman. I made it to state as an “alternate” which is a substitute for a runner. My sister was also an alternate but I know from my coach literally telling me she lets seniors go because she feels bad it’s their last year.

I would continue to press my mom for an answer but she never gave me one. It wasn’t until I overheard her and my sister talking about me in the living room. I don’t remember everything but it was basically that I was replaceable and I was always talking back and how much of a brat I was.

So my sister goes on the trip and I hear from my teammates that when they would go to dinners my sister would get high and run around. So that was the real reason why I couldn’t go. She would convince my mom to keep me home so she could get high freely.

When I brought this up recently my mom stills says that I was a brat. If I am the AH then I’ll admit 14yro me was pretty angsty but I’m still bitter about not going on that trip.

Tl;Dr: Sister convinced mom to not let me go on a trip so she could get high.
