My wife loves to garden. She calls it her passion and her hobby, which seems kind of funny, but I'm not one to judge. It can honestly be kind of nice on the weekends when I want to relax after a hard week at the office, and she goes outside to quietly garden. That aspect of it is absolutely fine with me.
The problem came a couple weeks ago when she decided to keep chrysanthemums. I was reading online on Quora that many cats are allergic to them, and that our breed of cat is particularly susceptible to the allergy. I told my wife and she basically laughed it off, saying "if he has a reaction, we'll find out."
I was honestly shocked that she treated the situation so cavalierly. I took our cat to the vet to see if some shots could be taken to protect him from the chrysanthemums, but they had nothing. I decided to let him play around near the garden for a split second, and his voice has been rough ever since with zero appetite. I was pissed. If my wife had just stopped planting that one flower, we could have avoided all of this.
This is where I many have been an asshole. I overreacted a little bit after being proven correct that the cat was allergic, so I took a small blowtorch to the garden. My original intent was only to burn the chrysanthemums, but I accidentally got the rest of the plants as well. My wife has been freaking out and screaming ever since.
