My (26F) brother (38M) is married to 35F. They have been married for about 17 ish years.

My brother met her when he was working somewhere in Africa. He builds custom houses for rich people but at that time just did construction work. He hasn't really told anyone the story basically he worked there for a year and came home with a pregnant 18 year old wife ( he was 21). She barely speaks any English and it's difficult to understand what she is saying so there has always been language barrier there.

My brother acts like his wife is some sort of perfect little angel and showers her with gifts. He treats her very well. All we ever hear about is whatever she did for him and how perfect she is or something about his kids latest achievements.

We had an Easter gathering and several family members and I were talking about my brother and his wife. My mom said she just got lucky he knocked her up and believes she is just gold digging and keeping him on the hook. I mostly said I think he wanted something exotic as a trophy wife. It isn't like she is bringing anything else to the table. She doesn't work and barely speaks English. I don't remember what all exactly was said but that was the gist of it.

Anyway apparently his wife overheard us and ran crying to my brother. He got angry and basically had a whole angry rant about us belittling her. We didn't belittle her and she didn't understand half of what was said.

He then gathered his kids and wife and they left.

Now my brother is refusing to talk to anyone until everyone in the group that was talking sincerely apologizes to her and she accepts it.

I think she is just being sensitive. I mean she did bag herself a good man just by getting pregnant and she seems very happy to no longer be in her country of origin so she benefitted from this marriage way more than he has.
