I F18 have a friend F19 we’ll call her Amanda who always seems to have something to complain about. I’ve recently been added to her private story on Instagram where things have only seem to have gotten worse. She posts photos/videos of herself crying saying how much she hates her dad and how she wishes she had enough money to move out. Yes, I feel compassion towards her as I know how hateful her father can be, but she spends her money on frivolous things when she could be saving it up to eventually move out. She asks other people for money in a “joking” manner, but I know deep down she’s actually being serious. Whenever we message each other something about money always seems to come up and she’ll make remarks on how it’s “interesting” I receive money for certain holidays because she doesn’t. Every family has different traditions and I’m not going to apologize for one being that I receive money as a gift. She constantly makes sly comments about the amount of money I have (keep in mind it’s not much) and it’s gotten to a point where I just can’t take it anymore. I’m not going to pity someone who wishes they had enough money to do this or do that when they are holding themselves back by not saving up that money and spending on things that they don’t need. I’ve never told her how I feel on the matter because I genuinely think she sees nothing wrong with her behavior. I’ve talked to my mom about it and she’s says that Amanda’s mom acts the same way. So, AITAH?
