now here me out, okay? i may be only 13 but i don't let this shit slide when it involves my family.
this happened yesterday, easter sunday. i(13f) was driving home with my younger brother(10) mom and dad. we were leaving a relatives house after spending 4 hours there with other family. we're driving down a windy road when this car comes roaring down, more than 15 miles over the speed limit, and cuts my father off, he's so close he nearly side-swipes us off the road. when my father honks, the man holds up the middle finger and speeds down the road. he gets stopped at a red light--still on the mountain--and we pull up besides him. my mom is awesome for this, and she had my younger brother roll down his window, wave, and yell, "there's kids in this car!" the man flips us off once more, and when i flip him off back, he rolls his window down and throws an open water bottle into our truck. the man looked to be mexican, was bald, and on the heavy side. then, a motorcyclist(who was a man looking to be in his 60's) pulls between us. when the light turns green, the man and the motorcyclist are head to head, and once more, the man tries to side swipe and run the motorcyclist off of the road. when he fails, he speeds up 10 miles and goes into the other lane, causing cars to stop, and honk, before he gets back onto the lane that we're in and continuing to floor it down this mountain.
at this point, my brother is crying and my mom is on the phone with 911, but i'm barking commands at my dad to follow him and get his license plate number because i feel like i'm in a fast and furious movie.
around 5 minutes later, before we get onto the freeway, we catch up to him again and land besides him at a red light because he gets caught behind 2 semi trucks. my brother's window is still rolled down, and so is my father's, and he begins to yell at the man who only turns up what he was listening to in the car--some dumbass drake song--so i decide to take things into my own hands.
this is where i may now be the asshole.
since he threw an open water bottle into our car, i take my open water bottle, which is a large, stainless steel hydroflask, and throw it at his window full force. now, in my defense, i thought his window was open with how shockingly clean it was, but no. it shattered the window, flew right in, and landed in his lap, cold water pouring all over him. i didn't know a water bottle could break a car window, but you learn something new every day.
my dad is proud of me, my mom tried grounding me, and i may get spoken to by law enforcement, but in my opinion it was worth it. I did see that he began driving slower after that, i wonder why...
i will be honest, i'm not traumatized by that. i am more so traumatized by the fact that we drove past a naked homeless person filming a video with their knees on their shoulders, inserting a rather large stick into her nunu.
now reddit, i need advice. AITAH or did i act appropriately?
SMALL EDIT FOR INFO: before I threw the water bottle in, the man shouted profanities at my younger brother and threatened to "🍇" and unalive. him. my brother is 10, as said early in the post. now, i know it wasn't smart to throw my water bottle, I still have a developing brain, but that, in my opinion, was too out of line. i do not believe what i did was right, and i also dont believe what my father or mother did was right, but that man could not get away with saying that to my brother.
