My boyfriend and I have been together for a year now. Before we started dating, we were just friends, and during that time, he told me a lot about his past relationships. He had one ex that he really loved — I could tell by how he talked about her.
A few months into our relationship, I noticed that the bracelet he often wore looked familiar. After some scrolling through his social media, I realized it was a gift from his ex. I confronted him about it and told him it made me uncomfortable. I asked why he would still wear something that could remind him of his past relationship. He told me he understood and said he had thrown it away.
Fast forward to now — we’re celebrating our first anniversary — and I found out that the bracelet still exists. He didn’t keep it himself, but he gave (or sold) it to his cousin. When I asked if it was the same bracelet, he denied it at first. But after a few more questions, he admitted it was and said he knew it was wrong. He told me he’s willing to get rid of it for real this time.
AITAH for being mad about this? I feel betrayed — like I was lied to for nine months. If I hadn’t seen a photo of his cousin wearing it, I would’ve never known.
