For some backstory, my roommate has been stressing about her birthday for WEEKS because she was worried I wouldn’t get along with her hometown friends. I’m a very outgoing and laid back person, I assured her I wouldn’t make things awkward but she wouldn’t stop bringing it up. I even told her I don’t have to come if she’s uncomfortable (and by the way she made them sound I honestly did not want to go) but she insisted.

Turns out, her friends are great. We all hit it off and had a wonderful day together, except my roommate was being quiet and acting pissed off all day. She ended up crying at dinner because we all told her it’s her decision which menu we order from (there were two options) and I guess she couldn’t decide. Everyone tried their best to cheer her up and act like the whole thing wasn’t awkward as hell.

Anyway, when we got back home we surprised her with her favorite cake. I was the one carrying to cake over to her while everyone was singing, but unfortunately half the cake slid off the flimsy ass plate and fell on her. Everyone started laughing and I started apologizing, I told her she can throw some cake at me for “revenge”. This bitch, with NO hesitation, grabbed some cake and proceeded to hit me in the face as hard as she possibly could. She was not laughing, and I kinda just sat there in shock for a moment along with everyone else. To avoid causing a scene on her birthday, I just left the house. She’s been texting me apologizing ever since and I refuse to answer, apparently she’s crying again.

She’s genuinely a decent person most of the time, idk wtf happened tonight but I’m pissed off. Obviously I did NOT mean to spill cake on her, and I do feel bad but damn. Am I the asshole?
