So I (30M) work in a restaurant, and I recently had an incident with two of my managers (M1 and M2). I was working dish when M1 asked me, “Hey, can you wash the soup cups next?” I said, “Yeah, no problem,” and was getting ready to do just that.
Not even a minute later, M2 storms in and says, “I need these washed now!!” I calmly replied, “Yeah, M1 just asked. I’ll wash them next.”
M2 wasn’t having it. He raised his voice again: “I need these ASAP, so wash what I ask now!!”
I said, “Like I said, M1 just asked. I’ll wash them next. Yelling at me won’t make the machine go any quicker.”
A few hours later, the GM comes in and calls me into the office. He says, “B, M2 told me you were rude and disrespectful to him earlier. That doesn’t sound like you—are you having a bad morning? What happened?”
I told him exactly what went down and how M2 yelled at me when I was already doing what M1 asked. The GM said, “That sounds more likely. I’ll have a talk with him about respecting his tone when speaking to those under him.”
So now I’m wondering… AITA for standing my ground and not letting M2 boss me around in the moment? I didn’t yell or swear, but I might’ve sounded annoyed. Was I out of line?
