more so WHO is the asshole, because i am NOT the bride, i am one of her bridesmaids.

My friend is getting married soon and has given multiple people plus ones… like out of towners who won’t know many people, and some friends who are married / in long term relationships. one of the other bridesmaids was in a relationship back when the invites were sent out, almost a year ago, and she was given a plus one. keep in mind, this bridesmaid knows atleast 70% of the guest list.. her entire friend group will be attending this wedding.

Fast forward and this bridesmaid and her BF break up. she then gets into another relationship, and then they break up about 2 weeks ago. at this point the bride has made the seating arrangements and the finalized guest list, and let this particular bridesmaid know that “hey, since you don’t have a partner anymore, and majority of the guests are your closest friends, you don’t really need a plus one anymore.”

Bridesmaid did not receive this well. and a few days later, essentially tells the bride “Hey im gonna bring one of my fck buddies / FWB as my plus one”. the brides response was “im not paying for your fck buddy to attend my wedding that me or the groom don’t know/ aren’t friends with, also your entire friend group is attending the wedding. also i would have to rearrange the entire seating chart to accommodate your fck buddy, so no, you don’t need a plus one”

bridesmaid is very upset, she’s angry, and thinks it’s unfair that her plus one was revoked. bride and bridesmaid are currently barely speaking because of this issue. bride feels like this is being extremely blown out of proportion, and feels like it’s a temper tantrum. bridesmaid feels cheated out of a plus one.

helpful context: -the bride and groom are paying for the entire wedding themselves. -the wedding is a month away -no i’m not the bridesmaid in question
