Hey, Reddit. I need some perspective on a situation that’s gotten pretty complicated.
I’m (19M) friends with “Jake” (21M), and we’ve hung out for years. A couple of months ago, I was over at Jake's place for a party when I met his mom, "Linda" (45F). To say she’s attractive is an understatement—everyone at the party noticed, and I couldn't ignore the chemistry we had. She was fun, flirty, and definitely had the whole "MILF" vibe going on, which I admit I found intriguing.
After that night, Linda and I started texting casually. One thing led to another, and we eventually met up for drinks. The chemistry was off the charts, and before we knew it, we ended up hooking up. I know, I know—it’s wild, and I felt a mix of excitement and guilt.
Initially, I thought we could keep it a secret, since Jake had no idea. Linda said she was separated from Jake’s dad, and she was just looking for some fun. It all felt very exhilarating, and we continued seeing each other for a few weeks, sneaking around without telling anyone. However, I started to feel uneasy about hiding it from Jake, especially since he’s a good friend.
Things took a turn when one night, I was at Jake's place, and we were all hanging out, including Linda. She didn’t know Jake was in the other room when I casually mentioned a “fun date” I had gone on recently. Jake overheard me, and when he confronted me about it, I panicked and confessed everything. His reaction was a mix of shock, laughter, and disbelief. He felt betrayed that I kept it from him and was upset about his mom being involved.
Now, Jake is pretty much avoiding me. I’ve tried to reach out and explain my side, but he’s not ready to talk. Linda is caught in the middle too; she doesn't want to lose her son or me. I care about both of them, and I regret not being upfront sooner.
So, AITAH for hooking up with my friend’s mom and not telling him until it all blew up? Should I have kept it strictly platonic? What can I do to mend things with Jake and handle this wild situation?
