Using a throwaway because these friends are def on Reddit and I don't need the extra drama....
I (F) have a friend I'll call George. We aren't really close, but have some shared interests, one of them being a professional sports team which is local for us. We have a large group of friends who go to a least 1 game together during the seaaon
I have access to discount tickets for this team and George will text me a few times during the season and ask me to get tickets for him...
Never once has he said - "Hey, I'm thinking about going to this game. Wanna join?" Usually, it's another friend from our group that goes with him.
The problem is, he often waits until the day of the game to ask for tickets and will text and call if I don't respond right away.
About 6 months ago he messaged me asking if I could snag him tickets in a certain section for the game that started in 3 hours..and I just ignored him. I was with another friend, hanging out, so I could have gotten them...I just didn't. We were shopping and I didn't feel like mucking around on my phone for 10 minutes to do it.
I messaged him after the game already started and told him sorry I just saw your text because I was busy.
He messaged back, no worries, next time.
A few days later a mutual friend and I were talking and she brought up how disappointed George was he had missed that game, his brother was in town and wanted to go, yadda yadda.
I said something like, well maybe if it was that important to him, he shouldn't wait until the last minute to ask because I am not a concierge. Or he can pay full price.
My friend called me an AH and said that not everyone can always make plans in advance and that if I wanted to put limitations on getting the tickets then maybe I shouldn't tell people that I can get them.
So...AITAH?
Please wait...
