My roommate cooks very well and claims they love to do it. My roommate is also one of my best friends. Let's call them Bob. Now, my mother's birthday was the other day and Bob messaged me and asked if my mother would like a homemade chicken pot pie dinner for her bday. I said yes and let my mom know this was the plan. We decided to do the dinner a week later. Earlier in the week, Bob and I had a conversation about when to have dinner and decided on Friday. Friday comes and I'm on my way home from work, Bob messages me and asks if we are still doing the dinner tonight. I say yes and Bob asks me to run to the store for more ingredients. Now my mom isnt super old, but she older and doesn't like to drive in the dark and goes to bed early. Bob knows this. I get home with ingredients around 530pm. My mom is also there. Then, Bob has a friend come over and they disappear to the other room til 7pm. Which unfortunately means my mother needs to start heading home because it will get dark soon and dinner hasn't even started yet. I'm just confused and disappointed at this point and I feel bad for my mom. Bob finally heads to the kitchen and starts cooking some things but at this point my mom is heading out the door and I'm frustrated and also pretty hungry/hangry. So I leave and say "I'll be back, I'm starving" I ran to the store next door and grabbed a snack because in my mind, this homemade meal is about to take a while. Well I return to the house and Bob has abandoned the kitchen and left the house. Chicken still in the pan. I check social media and they posted a picture of their dinner at a restaurant. Clearly they were upset or something. I didn't want to nag them but maybe I should've spoken up sooner to start food. I guess let me know if I'm an asshole.
