A few months ago, my friend texted me during finals period telling me that they needed help packing and moving their things from their dorm before they left the next day. They had not been taking classes, but was staying in the dorms while working for the college.

Now, I need you to know that I recently found out that I am chronically ill and had gotten very behind during the semester. This resulted in me failing a class. When they texted me I was in the heat of finals and they knew all of this. I told them when I was free to help them, but they never followed up the day of, later telling me that they were too busy. I assumed this was the end of it and that they would do it themselves, I was wrong.

A couple days later, I was still working on my finals, but they texted me telling me that they were already on their way home and away from campus. They had not packed at all. They asked if I could pack and move their things for them and I said, that I could but only once my school work was finished. They did not follow up with me for over a week, so I had assumed that they found someone else to take care of it since I did not even know their room number.

I texted them when I found out they were back on campus, multiple times with no reply. It turns out that campus staff threw away all of their belongings. When I found this out, I offered to buy them new clothing or help in anyway I could, but still no reply. So, I went about my life and just hoped they had missed my texts some how. I ran into them at a party last night and before even speaking to me, they were rude to me. So, I confronted them and asked if they were upset with me. They were so upset that they left the party. I don’t think I did anything wrong since they had retroactively asked me for a favor that I was unable to follow through on. I should have tried to reach out more and sooner, but I do not feel that was my responsibility since I am not the one who left campus without any worry for my belongings.
