Back in my 20s, I was really close with him. We spent a lot of time together, helped each other through stuff, and we were genuinely good friends. It’s been at least five years since I’ve heard from him at all though.

A few days ago, out of nowhere he messaged me. Said he lost his job, his lease is ending, and he doesn’t have anywhere to go and asked if he could stay with me for a bit while he figured things out.

I told him I was sorry he’s in a tough spot, but I’ve got a wife and kids now, and honestly, we’re already tight on space. On top of that, it just felt weird. I haven’t heard from him in five years, and the first contact is him asking for a place to stay? I offered to help him find some resources or temporary housing, but he didn’t take it well and said he thought I’d be there for him.

I feel bad, but AITA for saying no?
