📝 AITAH for not letting my friend borrow my vintage vinyl collection for her art project?

so, i (23f) have a pretty big vinyl collection that i've spent years curating. it's a mix of rare records, albums from my favorite artists, and just stuff that has a lot of sentimental value to me. i don’t play them all the time, but they mean a lot to me, and they're one of the few things i feel connected to.

my friend sophie (24f) is in art school, and she asked me if she could borrow some of my vinyls for her next project. she explained that she was working on a “multimedia” installation piece where she needed to use old records as part of her artistic concept. she assured me she’d take good care of them, but honestly, i’m just not cool with the idea of letting my stuff be used like that.

i told her i wasn’t comfortable with it, mostly because i can’t replace them if something happened to them. she didn’t take it well. she said i was being “selfish” and “holding onto the past” and that my records would be “used to create something new and beautiful.” she also mentioned that it would help her pass her class and that it was just “temporary.”

i still said no, and now she’s kind of avoiding me. some of our mutual friends think i should’ve let her do it, especially since it’s “just art” and “it’s for school.”
