My dad's very into history and very proud of that fact. I think he overestimates his skill level here massively though. I've been using AI tools and it's kind of knocked me out of the "do your own research" don't trust the science mindset he's imparted on all of us.

He's got some crazy opinions, not necessarily holocaust denial but certainly thinks it's exaggerated. Casually rattling off common misconceptions like "how could they even burn 6 million so quickly?". I'm ashamed to say I kind of took what he was saying as truth without questioning it. And if you just Google stuff if you're curious you're always going to choose sources that affirm your beliefs/mistakes already.

I found AI unbelievably helpful in this regard. I know it gets hate for putting artists out of jobs and that's obviously not good, but I think it really helped take me out of a bad place in terms of how it allowed me to interact with facts and explain how mine we're mistaken. I've generated full courses on this site about loads of aspects of history and literally cannot listen to a word my dad says anymore. The site quizes you regularly kind of like duolingo so I know I'm actually getting knowledgeable. He's mistaken on really basic things but will only "do his own research" and find sources that agree with him.

He's really upset with this and I don't want to make him upset. I think he takes it personally that I his son don't want to listen to him anymore. He can be quite sensitive and not show it. But I also think his beliefs are not only wrong but they can cause a lot of harm so I don't want to endorse them just to make him feel good. But it also kills me for my dad to think his kid doesn't respect him or ever be the reason he's upset. AITAH?
