AITAH

I recently went to a nursing convention on a cruise ship. I (50 ish F) went with 2 nurse friends, Jen (35 is F) and Sarah (55 ish F) we shared a cabin. First of all we flew to the city the night before and I used hotel points and I received no compensation from either of them. The agreement was the hotel at the end of the trip would be provided by one if not both of them. (This is a separate issue) There are 3 beds in the cabin. There is a pull out couch and 2 twin beds. I told Jen that her and I could swap off on the pull out couch, she agreed. Sarah had a lot to drink and was knocked out early. We could have hit an iceberg and she wouldn’t have woke up, the snoring was impressive. Jen was very upset and uncomfortable on the bed. Tossing and turning very dramatically. Yelled how bad Sarah’s snoring was. Knocked over stuff, hit the wall then threw something across the room. Let’s just say I got no sleep, but Sarah was still snoring away. The next morning, I got up put on my swim suit and headed to the pool bright and early. I saved them seats, hours later they showed up. Not much of a thank you either. I basically told them they owed me a drink. I wasn’t joking either. That night I told Jen I would take the couch. She said she asked the cabin attendant for a mattress topper and she would see how it was. I told her I wasn’t going to get out of bed if she decided on the middle of the night she was uncomfortable. She snapped, WELL I WILL LET YOU KNOW AFTER I TRY IT!!! she slept on the fold out again and tossed and turned. Apparently not as bad. The next day Jen and I set our alarms for 8:00am. She turned hers off. I got up walked over to the sliding door opened it about 2 inches to see what the weather at port was. Then closed it and closed the curtain. Went and got ready to get off the boat. The laid on bed another hour and a half. Apparently we were meeting another group and it wasn’t until 10:00 so we could get off together to do our excursion. When we got back I heard about how inconsiderate I was because I got up and slammed the curtain open. I told them my alarm wasn’t the only one that went off. Jen yelled ITS MY VACATION AND ITS MY PREROGATIVE TO TURN MY ALARM OFF AND GO BACK TO BED. Sarah jumped in was basically saying the same thing. I was ready for the evening, grabbed my room key, Slammed the door and left. I went and did all the things I WANTED TO DO! It was my vacation too after all! I have a tendency to capitulate when it comes to others. Well I left my phone back in the cabin and went back for it after I went to a show and sat at the patio bar for an hour. I did run into another nurse (Kim 40 ish F) that we knew. I ended up hanging with her the rest of the night. I had a great time.

The next day … the sent me a very specific schedule of what “they were doing” no once did they ask what I want to do. Again, I am done. I told them I was staying on the ship (out of spite at this point) I have been to the Bahamas before. They didn’t care about anything I had to say or suggest. So I went to classes, then to the pool. Sarah at one point asked me if I was going solo for the rest of this trip. Because they still expect me to do what THEY were doing. I did my thing, then went with them, I should have stood my ground. But didn’t. I was asked if I was planning on coming next year. This was our 3rd year. I dogged the conversation. Why would I go when I feel I was treated like crap?!?

Then next day, we disembarked and headed to the hotel. Sarah booked it with her points. Well apparently they emailed her 3 days earlier and said her CC didn’t go through. So they cancelled her reservation. No more rooms available. The hotel found another hotel. She booked it. Then said she would let me know what my portion would be!! Excuse me what??? I said I told you I would take care of the first hotel and you take care of the second. She said I didn’t pay for the first one. Ugh yeah I didn’t. Points don’t actually mean it’s free.
