Lately I've been feeling like an AH because I realized that if a friend of mine shares something they did or something they're proud of, I often don't say anything unless I find it particularly interesting or genuinely impressive. This happens especially in group chats. I might be the only one in the group who doesn't react to the message or picture.
On one hand, I feel like I wouldn't be honest or authentic if I reacted positively just because it's a social norm. On the other hand, I've started questioning whether my behavior is appropriate. I mean, friends are supposed to support each other.
For example: a friend sends a photo from a city he's visiting, and everyone else in the group chat reacts positively. I honestly had nothing to say about it, I had literally zero interest. But I still felt it was impolite not to react.
I wanted to hear your opinion on the matter. Thanks!
