📝 AITAH for not tipping at take-out/self-serve restaurants?

I spent the weekend in New York, which is notoriously expensive. After paying $40 for 2 sandwiches, the cashier turned the screen towards me, prompting me to select a tip, which I declined. They essentially prepared and handed to me the 2 sandwiches I paid for. They barely have a few counter-style seats, and you must clean up after yourself. What would I be tipping for? The same happened at an ice cream place and a bakery. And after paying $300+/night for a small hotel room, they expected me to tip for housekeeping too?

I gladly tip 18-20% at full-service restaurants, but if there is no service, I don't feel like handing out extra money.
