Context: This will be my first birthday with my girlfriend. I really don't celebrate my birthdays anymore and told her so, but she is dead set on "celebrating me" (her words). She has invited a couple of my friends for a "relaxing day by the pool". I appreciate the sentiment and can tell it's important to her, but I'm really not thrilled. My ideal birthday would be just another day with maybe a steak dinner or if its on a weekend a day with absolutely no obligations that I can do whatever whenever however I feel like, not "relaxing by the pool" (not even my pool) with other people that I have to worry about.
