So Ive been going to hair / cosmetology school for the past year or so, and will be graduating next month. Throughout this time, Ive been giving my family occasional haircuts, color and highlights for free (except for reimbursement for product) and its been very helpful practice.

Recently my mom made some comments about how she’s expecting free haircuts and colors moving forward from me, and that this is something I owe her. After my initial push back against this agreement she came up with without us even discussing it at all, she brings up the argument about all she has done for me to raise me and house me etc.

Im super grateful for all my mom has done for me but I don’t think its fair to be assigned this obligation. I don’t want occasional weekend visits to my parents house to feel like a chore. And this will soon be what I do to make a living and I feel like im being used.

Once I’m in a salon, I want my work at stay at work and I don’t want to be doing hair on my own time. While I love my mom and I love doing her hair, that is time that I could be making money in a salon.

AITAH for not wanting to give my mom free services?
