so, i (22f) recently moved into a new apartment, and it’s been my little sanctuary. it’s quiet, cozy, and a space i’m really proud of. everything’s been good until my friend lucy (23f), who’s really into spirituality, crystals, and energy healing, asked if she could throw a “spiritual cleansing” party in my apartment.
she said that the energy in the place was “a bit heavy” (even though i hadn’t noticed anything like that) and that she could invite a few of her friends over to smudge the entire apartment with sage, use sound bowls, and do a full-on energy clearing ritual. she assured me it would only take a few hours, and she promised it would “bring good vibes” into my space.
i told her i wasn’t really into all that and wasn’t comfortable with people coming into my home and doing things like that without asking first. i explained that i like to keep the atmosphere in my apartment relaxed and simple, without any spiritual rituals or things that might make me feel uncomfortable.
lucy got really offended and told me i was being “closed off to positive energy” and that i was being “too attached to the material world.” she said it was her way of helping me align my space with my personal energy, and that i was rejecting a chance for growth. she also claimed that it was just a harmless ritual that could only benefit me and that it was “disrespectful” to turn it down.
some of our mutual friends are saying i should’ve let her do it, especially since it would “bring peace and clarity” to my life. but i just don’t feel comfortable with it.
AITAH for refusing to let my friend throw a “spiritual cleansing” party in my apartment?
