so i (24f) live in a small one-bedroom apartment, and i’m pretty protective of my space. i’ve always been that way — i like keeping things neat, having a quiet environment, and honestly, it’s the only place i can truly unwind. recently, my friend emma (25f) asked if her boyfriend, danny (26m), could crash at my place for a week while he was in town for work. i’ve met danny a couple of times, and he seems alright, but we’re not exactly close. i told emma i wasn’t comfortable with having him stay at my apartment for that long, and she didn’t take it well.

the main reason i said no was because my apartment is tiny, and i really don’t have the space to accommodate a guest for a week, especially someone i don’t know that well. i also told her that i value my privacy and peace, and that having someone stay in my space for that long would just make me feel uneasy. she tried to convince me, saying she’d “stay out of the way” and that he wouldn’t be any trouble. but i just didn’t feel right about it.

she got really upset and accused me of being unsupportive and selfish. she said it wasn’t that big of a deal, and i was overthinking it. i tried to explain that it wasn’t about her or him — it was about me needing my space, especially since i work from home and already deal with a lot of distractions. but she kept saying that if i was a true friend, i’d be willing to help her out when she needed it.

now she’s giving me the cold shoulder, and some mutual friends have said i’m being too harsh and should just suck it up for the week. i’m starting to wonder if maybe i should’ve just let him stay, but i really don’t feel like i’m in the wrong.
