so, i (24f) got married last year, and i absolutely loved my wedding dress. it was a bit of a splurge, but it was the dress. it felt like everything i’d imagined, and i couldn’t wait to wear it. after the wedding, i packed it away carefully, intending to keep it as a memory, but also knowing it would probably never be worn again. fast forward to a few months ago, and my sister, julia (28f), got engaged. she asked me if she could borrow my wedding dress for her second wedding.

now, here’s the thing: i’m happy for julia and her new fiancé, but i was really taken aback by her request. it’s not that i don’t want to support her — i do. it’s just that, to me, my wedding dress is really special, and the idea of someone else wearing it feels kind of wrong. i also know that julia’s second wedding is going to be very different from mine, both in terms of size and vibe, so i’m not sure how she’d even pull it off. i told her no, and explained that it was too sentimental for me to let go of.

she got really upset and accused me of being selfish, saying it wasn’t fair to withhold something that could mean so much to her. i feel bad because i know it’s a big deal to her, but i just can’t imagine parting with my dress. now she’s really angry at me, and i feel like i’ve ruined our relationship.
