My gf (27F) and I (25M) have been dating for about 4 months now. I've been moving back with my mom and she's been helping me (along with my mom and her boyfriend).

While we were waiting in her car for them to arrive, I was scrolling through IG and I went past a Popeye's commercial. After a few seconds she asked was that a Popeye's commercial? I said yes, then asked her how she knew. She said it was a very popular commercial and that she heard it all the time. I made a joke saying that "her people" would be familiar with it.

She got offended for a moment, then she smiled back and said, yeah, your people wouldn't be familiar with food that has a lot of seasonings.

Then (because I was in the driver's seat, she was in the passenger seat with her legs in my lap) I made a joke about being familiar with "burnt edges" and started reaching for her butt. She pulled away and called me an asshole.

Am I the asshole for making this remark?
